1922
In 1922 our ancestor Nicolas Misset, previously a trader of grains and cattle feed, took over the Anciens Etablissements PASCAL Frères in Dijon created in 1852 and specialized in trading wines and making fruit spirits, notably crême de cassis. He was also the last owner of the Dukes of Burgundy historic vineyard located in the Clos des Marcs d’Or. This ancient 6-hectare vineyard on the far North of Côte de Nuits was initially planted with chardonnay, before being planted with fine pinot plants and was finally built over to expand Dijon. The old vat room of the Dukes of Burgundy’s gigantic presses (13th century) has been preserved and is still to this day our property.
1939
In 1939, Nicolas Misset went into a partnership with his son Paul who traded wines in Nuit St Georges under the brand Maurice Bailly, to create the Société d’Exploitation des Marques Alliées, in order to regroup their activities.
In parallel, Paul Misset patiently built, during his whole life, a prestigious vineyard in the best crus of Côtes de Nuit (Nuits St Georges, Clos de Vougeot, Gevrey Chambertin) and his son-in-law Denis Chéron would pursue around the villages of Chambolle Musigny and Vosne Romanée. Today this vineyard is a part of the Domaine du Couvent de Gevrey Chambertin and is managed by the Burgundian branch of the family’s heirs.
1966
In 1952 Denis Cheron’s arrival brought a renewal to the family business with an extension in 1966 to the Rhône Valley and the development of local wine making before acquiring a winemaking cellar in Vacqueyras: La Grande Comtadine and the beginning of a new estate.
1981
The interest his son Yves Chéron had for viticulture allowed in 1981 to plan for the creation of a larger wine estate. This will be realized when the opportunity of an exceptional terroir for sale arose, in what is certainly one the most beautiful sites in the Pays des Dentelles: the Domaine du Grand Montmirail, in the location called “Mon Rêve” (My Dream) ideally located on the southwards slope of the Dentelles and creating a green sanctuary on the GIGONDAS appellation. Years of efforts will lead to the extension of the estate to Vacqueyras and Beaume de Venise, on very qualitative plots.
2003
In 2003, a new extension started in the Northern Rhône Valley with the acquisition of lands in the appellation Crozes Hermitage on the Roche de Glun terroir, followed in 2005 by a neighboring estate, on the Mercurol-Veaune terroir. These two complementary vineyards are now regrouped in the Domaine Les Hauts de Mercurol.
2015
The 5th generation has brought another renewal with the arrival in 2015 of Élisa Chéron to the management of the enology, winemaking, ageing and bottling activities. She gives the cuvées a feminine and highly delicate signature.
2020
Her husband, Marty, has recently and enthusiastically joined our adventure as vineyard manager and helps us rise to the challenge of sustainable farming. With a high respect for the living, he and we are moving toward a complete conversion to organic farming.
2021
Then the arrival of Juliette Chéron, in charge of packaging and communication, has revisited our marketing.
